Everything you want to know before you start — from how matching works to what happens if things need to change.
Getting started
5 questionsDo I need a diagnosis to get started? +
No — you don’t need a diagnosis, a referral, or any prior experience with therapy to reach out. You just need to want some kind of support.
Many people who come to CalmSity have never spoken to a mental health professional before. That’s completely fine. Tell us a little about what you’re experiencing and what you’re hoping for, and we’ll take it from there.
What if I don’t know what kind of support I need? +
That’s exactly what we’re here for. Not knowing is the most common place to start.
When you reach out, we’ll have a brief conversation — not a clinical intake form — to understand what’s going on and what you’re looking for. Based on that, we’ll recommend the most fitting care path and explain our reasoning clearly. You’re never left to figure it out alone.
How quickly will I hear back from someone? +
We respond to every message within one business day. Most people hear back the same day they reach out.
Once you confirm your care path, we aim to have your first session booked within 48 hours — not weeks.
Is there any commitment or obligation when I first reach out? +
None at all. Getting in touch is just a conversation. There’s no commitment, no card required, and no pressure to continue.
We want you to feel confident about your decision before anything begins — so we take time to make sure you understand your options fully before any next step.
Can I start with just a phone call or email? +
Yes. You can reach us however feels most comfortable — by phone at (913) 354-4467, by email at info@calmsity.com, or through the contact form on our website.
There’s no set format for a first contact. Some people send a brief email, others prefer to call. Either works.
Care paths
5 questionsWhat care paths does CalmSity offer? +
CalmSity offers four main care paths, and we’ll help match you to the right one:
- Talk Therapy — one-to-one sessions with a licensed therapist
- Psychiatric Support — evaluation and medication management with a prescriber
- Skills Coaching — structured, goal-focused support for stress, focus, sleep, and emotional regulation
- Self-Guided Support — structured programmes you work through at your own pace, with optional check-ins
In many cases, more than one path may be appropriate — we’ll explain all your options clearly.
How do you decide which care path to recommend? +
Based on your goals, what you’re experiencing, how long it’s been going on, and what kind of support you’re looking for. We also take into account practical factors like schedule, location preferences, and whether you’ve tried any support before.
We’ll always explain why we’re recommending what we are — and you’re free to ask questions or choose differently.
Can I do therapy and medication support at the same time? +
Yes. Combined care — therapy alongside psychiatric support — is often the most effective approach for conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and others. CalmSity coordinates both through one point of contact, so you don’t have to manage two separate systems.
Is CalmSity right for urgent or crisis situations? +
CalmSity is not a crisis service and is not designed for emergencies. If you’re in immediate danger or experiencing a crisis, please call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988).
For situations that feel urgent but are not emergencies — increased anxiety, a difficult life event, feeling overwhelmed — we can often respond same-day and connect you with support quickly.
Do you offer couples or relationship therapy? +
Yes. CalmSity has providers experienced in couples and relationship therapy, including communication issues, trust, life transitions, and navigating conflict. Reach out to discuss whether this is the right fit for your situation.
Providers
4 questionsWho are CalmSity’s providers? +
CalmSity works with licensed therapists, counsellors, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and coaches — all credentialed and vetted before they join our network. Providers are matched to clients based on speciality, approach, and fit — not just availability.
Can I choose my own provider? +
Yes. After we make a recommendation, you can browse provider profiles, read about their background and approach, and choose who you’d like to work with. We’ll make a suggestion, but the final decision is always yours.
What if my provider isn’t the right fit? +
We’ll rematch you — simply and without hassle. Finding the right fit sometimes takes a step or two, and that’s completely normal. Your care history stays with CalmSity so you never have to repeat your story from scratch.
There’s no penalty or awkwardness in requesting a change. It’s one of the most common things we help with.
Are sessions virtual or in-person? +
Both options are available. CalmSity has in-person providers in the Denver, CO area, and telehealth is available across multiple states. When you first get in touch, let us know your preference and we’ll match accordingly.
Cost & billing
4 questionsHow does pricing work? +
Session costs vary depending on the care path and provider. We provide full cost clarity before anything starts — there are no surprise bills.
Before your first session, you’ll know exactly what each appointment costs. If that doesn’t work for your situation, let us know and we’ll discuss what options are available.
Do you accept insurance? +
Insurance acceptance varies by provider. When you get in touch, let us know your insurance details and we’ll confirm what’s covered before you commit to anything.
Private pay options are also available for those who prefer not to use insurance or whose plans aren’t accepted.
Is there a fee for the initial conversation? +
No. The initial conversation to understand your needs and discuss options is completely free. Costs only apply once you’ve agreed to proceed with a specific care path and booking.
What is your cancellation policy? +
Cancellation policies are set by individual providers and will be explained clearly before your first session. In general, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule without a late cancellation fee.
If something unexpected comes up, reach out as early as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
Privacy
3 questionsIs my information kept confidential? +
Yes. Everything you share with CalmSity is handled with full confidentiality. Your information is never shared with anyone without your explicit consent.
All providers working with CalmSity are bound by professional ethical standards and legal confidentiality obligations, including HIPAA where applicable.
Are there any exceptions to confidentiality? +
As with all licensed mental health providers, there are narrow legal exceptions where disclosure may be required — specifically where there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.
Your provider will explain these limits clearly during your first session. They apply to all licensed mental health professionals — they are not unique to CalmSity.
Can I request my records or delete my information? +
Yes. You can request a copy of your records or ask for your information to be removed at any time by contacting us at info@calmsity.com. We’ll respond within one business day to discuss your request.
Managing your care
4 questionsHow often will I have sessions? +
Frequency depends on your care path and your own preferences. Talk therapy typically starts weekly, with many people moving to bi-weekly as they make progress. Coaching may be more or less frequent depending on your goals.
Your provider will recommend a cadence during your first session — but you’re always free to adjust. Life changes and your schedule should too.
Can I pause or stop care at any time? +
Yes, always. There’s no lock-in and no penalty for taking a break or stopping. If you want to pause, just let us or your provider know and your place is held whenever you’re ready to resume.
What happens if my needs change over time? +
Your care adapts with you. If your situation changes — a new diagnosis, a life event, different goals — we can adjust your care path, change providers, add a different type of support, or reduce intensity.
CalmSity’s single point of contact means you don’t have to navigate these changes alone. Tell us what’s shifted and we’ll help you figure out the best next step.
How do I get in touch if something isn’t working? +
Contact us directly any time — phone, email, or the contact form. We respond within one business day. You can reach us at (913) 354-4467 or info@calmsity.com.
If something is wrong — with your provider, your plan, or anything else — we want to know about it and we’ll address it directly.
